Dr. Nagele is an internationally recognized trauma anesthesiologist, researcher and educator. An authority on perioperative outcomes research, he focuses on to better predict, diagnose, prevent, and treat major cardiac events in surgical patients. He discovered that novel heart biomarkers may predict heart attacks in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.

He has also conducted ground-breaking work suggesting that a brief inhalation of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, improves severe symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts.
